Welcome to what is one of the most amazing places to stay in St Andrews!
The grandest looking of all the halls and set back from the road and with its own quad, St Salvator’s Hall is also bang in the centre of town.
Set back from North Street a few yards from North Point Café it’s handy for lucky Art students, as well as those returning from Raisin Monday in the Quad and beach parties on Castle sands. In short, everything is on your doorstep.
Sallies, built in the 1930’s, is surrounded by history and this is in many ways what makes it so beautiful to live in. The tower of St Salvator’s chapel, which can be seen from anywhere in the town, is adjacent to Sallie’s hall, as is the Castle with its own beach (lying in wait for your May Dip), providing the other quite dramatic backdrop.
The majority of the rooms are shared so that as many people as possible get to experience Sallies. You will find that overall, people are paired up pretty well (as long as your mother doesn’t fill in the ‘about me’ form’). Sallie’s puts on an impressive amount of free food and drink throughout the year.
Be sure to make the best of the Pimms BBQ on the front lawn during the first week and it is only a matter of time until you hear the parties start to rumble from the basement which help form a very particular Sallies vibe.
But let’s not get smug. Sallie’s is just a segment of what St Andrews has to offer. They say St Andrews provides a uni experience like no other, Sallie’s is no exception. The quirky traits, the tweed embracing charismatic committee, the sound of the ocean in the morning and a pier walk (or jump) metres away….It’s yours for the making.
