New Hall is definitely for modern living. Each room has a double bed with an en suite toilet to boot. It is also one of the biggest halls, housing near 550 people. If there’s one thing about New Hall, you’re definitely going to meet a lot of people.
Not all food is catered here, so some of may be cooking for yourselves first year. This is great practice for those who manage it and one thing less for those who line up in the queue!
With 4 floors, kitchens, almost all private rooms and not everybody catered, you might have thought its an impersonal place to be. Think again. The whole building is very spaciously designed, especially the entrance.
With a large and wide open hall to greet you, there’s plenty of chance to catch friends at the post holes or by the canteen. We are one of the few halls to have a coffee bar open outside of meal times.
Although we’re out on the North Haugh, and so a little beyond town, we enjoy the space. We are immediately surrounded by one of the few green spaces in St Andrews, so great if you want to get outside for a stretch. It’s conveniently close to most of the Science buildings and sports facilities too, so sort of a best of both worlds.
Having your own en suite room is really quite generous, and it’s a great way to feel comfortable. But the layout and friendly atmosphere (lots of natural light!) helps encourage meeting lots of neighbours. And there are many of them to get through!
